Traditional Christmas ham sauce
The traditional Christmas ham sauce is the Yhteishyvä magazine’s long-time favourite. Save the Christmas ham juice and use it as a base for a tasty cream sauce. Prepare the classic version or boldly add new, delicious flavours.

Christmas ham sauce – The original recipe
Sauce base
2 dl of Christmas ham juice or strong beef stock
1 dl water
Thickener
2 tbsp wheat flour
1 dl water
In addition
1 carton (2 dl) whipping cream
¼ tsp ground white pepper
(salt)
Boil the ham juice and water (1 dl) in a saucepan.
Mix in the flour and water (1 dl) and stir until smooth. Add the flour thickener to the mixture while constantly stirring. Let the sauce boil for about 10 minutes. Stir occasionally.
Add the cream and pepper. Stir and bring to a boil. Check the taste and add salt as needed. Serve with Christmas ham.
Christmas ham sauce – A new version
Prepare the sauce according to the original recipe. Season as desired, bring to a boil and add salt as necessary.
Cherry sauce
Mix 1 jar (85 g) of cherry jam and 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar or red wine in the sauce.
Wasabi and honey sauce
Mix 2–3 tsp of wasabi paste, 2 tbsp of honey and 1 tbsp of lemon juice in the sauce.
Miso and butter sauce
Mix 2 tbsp of miso paste and 50 g of diced butter in the sauce.
